International Test of English Language Proficiency (ITELP) is a three hour, paper-based test that includes the following 5 sections:

  • Structure of Written English (20 multiple choice questions)
  • Structure of Oral English (20 multiple choice questions)
  • Reading Comprehension (35 multiple choice questions)
  • Aural Comprehension (35 multiple choice questions)
  • Writing Composition
Test Fee
The test fee is CA$65, which is paid on the test day prior to the test.

Scoring Process
The multiple choice questions will be marked digitally, and the essay will be scored by a professional essay grader. The grading process takes about two weeks and the results will be forwarded to the Office of Admissions internally. Each candidate will receive the results by e-mail. An official transcript along with a score interpretation will be mailed to each candidate as well. 

ITELP Score
Your ITELP score for each section, except Writing Composition, is based on the number of questions answered correctly. There is no deduction for incorrect answers.
 
Total score is 700 and the full score for each test section is as follows:
 
Grammar (Structure of Written and Oral English): 100
Reading Comprehension: 100
Aural Comprehension: 200
Writing Composition: 300   

Retaking the ITELP
Normally, you may not take the ITELP more than once in any three-month period.
